Every Jew Is Welcome: Sephardic Nusach, Open to All
LiveMinyan is the daily virtual minyan of Sephardic U. We pray in the Sephardic nusach (Edot HaMizrach), and we welcome every Jew: Ashkenazi, Sephardi, Mizrahi, or just beginning. If you grew up with a different siddur, you will feel at home quickly.
New to the Sephardic nusach? Here is what you may notice
- Shacharit opens with Hodu, before Baruch She’amar.
- Kaddish includes a few added words asking for redemption: “veyatsmah purkaneh vikarev meshiheh.”
- We follow traditional Sephardic minhag in the order and melodies of the prayers, so some tunes and customs may be new to you.
- Hebrew is pronounced the Sephardic way, much like the Hebrew spoken in Israel today.

What is LiveMinyan?
LiveMinyan is a free daily virtual minyan on Zoom, run by Sephardic U. We pray Shacharit every morning from Sunday to Friday and Arvit from Sunday to Thursday evening, and Kaddish is recited at every service.
Is a virtual minyan valid?
Many rabbis allow joining a minyan online, especially for people who cannot reach a synagogue because of distance, travel, health or schedule. Others hold that a minyan must gather in one place. Pray with an in-person minyan when you can, and ask your own rabbi. Read about the halachic discussion.
Who can join?
Every Jew is welcome: Sephardi, Ashkenazi, Mizrahi, and those just beginning. We pray in the Sephardic nusach, and you are welcome to follow along at your own pace.
Is it free? Do I need to register?
It is completely free, with no account, membership or registration. Just tap Join when the minyan begins.
What time is the minyan where I live?
Services are set in New York time. This page shows every service in your own time zone automatically, and “Save to my calendar” adds a weekly event that adjusts to where you are.
Do I need to read Hebrew?
No. The leader announces the page numbers, and you can follow at your own pace. Answering Amen and Kaddish with everyone is a wonderful way to begin.
Do I need to turn on my camera?
No, your camera is optional. Please stay muted, and unmute when you want to answer Amen or say Kaddish.
Can I say Kaddish for a loved one?
Yes. Kaddish is recited at every service. Mourners and those marking a nahala are welcome to say Kaddish with us, morning and evening.
Is there a minyan on Shabbat and holidays?
No. There are no online services on Shabbat or yom tov. Weekday services resume right after, and the upcoming holidays are listed on this page.
Can I join while traveling?
Yes. You can join from anywhere in the world on a phone, tablet or computer. Many of our members pray with us from the road.
